WIMFEST, Liverpool's first International Women's Festival, is set to take the city by storm this weekend. (Sat and Sun, June 26-27) With education workshops, master classes and two concerts, WIMFEST is the first celebration of women's international music to be held in the official World Capital of Pop.

The weekend event, which has received official backing from the £2m Liverpool city council led 'Creative Communities Programme', takes place at the Bluecoat Arts Centre and the Barfly club in Liverpool city centre. 'SheBoom' - the awe inspiring women's drumming group from Glasgow - will set the beat with a festival opening parade through the city centre on Saturday morning. Headliners at WIMFEST Plugged include the multi-award-winning Connie Lush and Blues Shouter and Liverpool based punk trio, 'Flamingo 50'. WIMFEST Unplugged features Jennifer John and her band, Rubyfruit Jam, Amy Newhouse Smith, Claire Mooney, Holly Lerski and Angelou, and local legend Beryl Marsden.
